What is this?

We’re heading out on a night ride in illuminated boats along the Gauja, on the Līgatne - Sigulda route. This is when the concentration of shooting stars is at its peak — yep, a proper meteor shower. Our boats will be lit up like Christmas trees, the water calm, shooting stars overhead, and someone will finally understand what relaxation and carefree vibes actually look like. Along the way there’ll be trees, mist, silence, and that weird moment when you realize you’re in a boat at 3 a.m. somewhere between Līgatne and Sigulda, and somehow it all feels completely logical. After all, this is an Adventure.

After the night-time boating and around sunrise, we’ll finish in Sigulda. After such an impressive night, your mind will be slightly out in space, because that was epic.

No one to go with? Often you want to head out for some active fun, but there's no one to join you—friends have other plans, family is busy, and your partner isn't really into it. So feel free to join solo. In our Adventures, you won't feel alone because everyone's on the same path, giving you the chance to have a great time not only in nature but also meeting new people.

4 reasons to join:

  1. Night kayaking
  2. Meteor shower
  3. Lit-up boats
  4. Unusual and unique Adventure

What is the approximate plan?

  • We meet at 22:00 at Līgatne Ferry (Google map / Waze). It’s best to arrive at least 10–15 min earlier, because it’s better to show up 10 min early than be 1 min late. Here we sort out part of the group’s car shuttle to the finish, aka logistics. Once the logistics are "DONE", we’re ready to kick off the night paddling Adventure in illuminated boats, so we pair up in the boats — those who came together paddle together, and anyone heading into the Adventure solo gets matched with awesome boat buddies. The group leader also gives a short but valuable briefing about paddling and safety on the water, and then we’re good to enjoy the paddling Adventure. New friends get to meet, old friends get time together, and all of us get an energy-packed night in boats on the water. After around ~20km and roughly at sunrise, we reach the finish. The finish time is unpredictable and we’ll finish when we finish, but we’re aiming for around 06:00. The Adventure is over and everyone heads home.

What time do we meet? We meet at 22:00. It’s best to arrive at least 10–15 min earlier, because it’s better to show up 10 min early than be 1 min late.
Our start / meeting point: Līgatne Ferry (Google map / Waze)
How to get there? By private transport or with another group member (1-2 days before the event, there will be a WhatsApp group where you can arrange it). It's also possible to go there and back with organizer transport for an additional fee of 10 euros (VERY limited spots, departure from Riga center - Origo)
How long will the route be? Altogether, at a slow and easy pace, we plan to cover around ~20km
What time will we finish? We’ll finish when we finish, because it all depends on our own relaxed pace, but the planned finish time is by 06:00.
What do you need to bring? Wear weather-appropriate clothing. Better to put on an extra jacket and take it off later than to freeze. Especially when crossing open water, a gust of wind might hit, and then it's no fun. Clothes should be comfortable since there's quite a bit of active movement, aka rowing. The chance of getting wet is very minimal, and I can guarantee 99% that you'll stay dry unless you do something yourself. Only a bit of water might drip from the oars onto your legs, so in colder weather, waterproof pants will come in handy.

  • The plan is just a rough outline and there might be changes, but overall it will be as described above.

How does the Adventure with boats happen?

The adventure takes place with boats, meaning it's a boating adventure where we paddle along a cool route. Our boats are designed for 2 people, so they're two-seaters. If you're going solo, you'll be paired up with another participant, giving you not just a cool adventure but possibly a new friend. Some boats can accommodate a third person, but if you need this, you must contact us BEFORE signing up for the adventure, as these spots are VERY limited.

We carry all the gear needed for the adventure ourselves with the boats, and there's plenty of space in them. Of course, there's only enough space if the amount is within reason, not if you've packed a toaster, hairdryer, washing machine, and grandma's hope chest. In that case, you'll have to think about what you'll leave on the shore.

Before the Adventure, we meet at the pre-arranged spot and organize car shuttling to the end, where they wait for us when we finish the Adventure. You can totally go on this Adventure solo or with one of your group buddies. You can find more info about the logistics in the "Frequently Asked Questions" section of this Adventure.

Who will be your group leader?

Raimonds Šūpulnieks1 / 9

Raimonds Šūpulnieks

The leader of this Adventure group and your fellow Adventure creator, Raimonds, will be joining you. This means you'll have a hand to hold when climbing a mountain, a shoulder to lean on before a scarier activity, or a buddy to hit up local parties with. Those who've been on an Adventure with him before know you'll go where you probably shouldn't go, do what you probably shouldn't do, and it'll be great - it'll be ADVENTURES.

What else should I know?

If you're inclined to whine and be grumpy about little things, then this won't be the right Adventure, as it spoils both the group's microclimate and the mood of other group members. That's why we want to see positive adventurers on our Adventures. The group leader won't "babysit" the picky folks but will simply ignore them to focus on those who want to enjoy the Adventure. The group is small, which usually turns into a very friendly company, so it's not the right place for those who want to "pick fights."

We also recommend checking out the frequently asked questions.

Frequently asked questions:

  • 1. What do I need to bring?

CLOTHING - You'll definitely need weather-appropriate and event-appropriate clothing. Dressing for the weather means checking the forecast the day before the event and preparing your outfit accordingly. If it's raining, wear something rainproof, and if the sun's shining, dress so you're not too hot or cold, etc. Make sure you're comfortable. Also, remember a change of clothes, as this Adventure is on the water and you might get wet. In short, your clothing list might look like this: clothes for water activities, like a swimsuit in warm weather, long pants (ideally waterproof overpants) in cold weather, a sweater/jacket, suitable footwear, and a towel will be handy. Then clothes for when the wind picks up and spare clothes for after the event (in case of an unexpected swim). And it's important to be prepared for rain with a rain jacket, because you never know.
ADDITIONAL ITEMS - insect repellent (if it's "mosquito season"), sunscreen (if sunny weather is expected), a thermos with a drink (if not included in the Adventure), snacks (if not included in the Adventure), etc.

  • 2. How do we get to the Adventure and back?

Getting to the Adventure start is with your own private transport. If you don't have your own private transport, it's possible to team up and go with other participants of this event. Before the Adventure, we'll try to organize and help so those who drive with their own transport can pick up those who don't, as this way it's possible to share fuel costs (win-win). If this option doesn't suit you, it's possible to go by public transport.

  • 3. Can I go alone?

You can definitely join by yourself. On the contrary, many people go solo and in that case, you'll have the chance to meet new friends or maybe even find your other half 😉

  • 4. Can beginners join the activity?

The Canoeing Adventure is meant for everyone - both those who paddle from morning till night and those who've never done it before. We'll show you everything, explain it, and teach you. Plus, along with the gear, we've provided a life jacket for everyone to make sure everything's smooth sailing in this Adventure :)

  • 5. Are there any height and weight restrictions?

Our boats have limited buoyancy, so the weight limit for individuals is 100kg. There are no height restrictions, at least we haven't noticed it being important.

  • 6. Will the Adventure take place in unsuitable weather conditions?

We care about the quality and safety of this Adventure, so it will only happen in weather conditions suitable for this Adventure. Whether the weather is suitable is determined by the Adventure group leader, not any of the participants or their friends. In case of cancellation, we will inform you no later than 12 hours in advance (before the start of the Adventure). If canceled, you can reschedule your participation to another preferred date for this Adventure or even an Adventure with equivalent costs, but only if we cancel the event, not if a participant decides to cancel it themselves.

  • 7. How to sign up for an Adventure?

You can sign up for the trip on our website by clicking the "SIGN UP" button and filling out the application form located under the Adventure description. Since there are many interested, but not all are actual travelers, an advance payment is required to confirm participation in the Adventure. The amount of the advance payment depends on the specific Adventure. By paying this advance, your spot in the Adventure is confirmed. If you cancel your participation in the Adventure, the advance payment is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to confirm participation in another trip.

  • 8. How long can I think about it if I want to sign up?

You can think about it as long as there are spots available. After that, you can keep thinking, but there won't be any spots left on the trip.

  • 9. Is there anything else important?

The trip's vibe and awesomeness largely depend on the travelers themselves, so if you like to stir up trouble or "mess with the minds" of the organizers and other trip participants, then this trip isn't for you. We've had a couple of grumpy ladies before who annoyed everyone, so if you can't control your mood – DON'T COME! The group leader is ALWAYS right (even if they're not), so if you've decided to join, you'll have to listen to them.

Payment terms:

• Deposit payment 45EUR (per person) to reserve your spot upon booking.

Since we receive A LOT of applications but not all turn into actual bookings, your spot is only confirmed and reserved after the deposit is paid.

Age restrictions:

• Minimum recommended Participant age 10 years.

• No maximum age limit for participants.
